Last week’s poll asked readers - “As a foreigner in Germany, what's been the hardest thing for you to do?”
49 newsletter respondents were close to equal in three areas - 31% said it was finding a job, 31% said it was securing an apartment, and 33% said it was learning German. 4% also said it was mastering the bureaucracy, with 2% saying it was something else.
I asked the same question on X and 291 respondents reported very different results - 12.7% said it was finding a job, 17.2% was securing an apartment, 35.1% said it was learning the language, and 35.1 said was mastering the bureaucracy.

I shared a silly list (with no linked source) making its rounds on X this week, all about which countries have the best work-life balance. Somehow, the UK and Canada were rated above Germany, and most agreed there was no way it could be true.
Nick Mulder, Co-Founder of Hypofriend & Pensionfriend, also listed some good reasons why living in Germany might be better than living in the US.
Carlos Alejos Alonso, a career coach and experienced recruiter, recently shared some useful job search tips on LinkedIn.
Mario D., a Berlin-based product manager, gave insight into the difficulties of his current job search. I’ve heard the same from many tech people I coach and speak with at our events. It’s tough out there right now. 😭
Is Gen-Z lazy, or are they on to something?
Some hacker dude released a “Godmode” version of ChatGPT, where the usual safety measures were removed, and you could obtain detailed advice on how to make meth, for example. The hack was quickly taken down.
Meanwhile, scientists in Switzerland created a “living computer” powered by human brain tissue. 🤯
