The Far-Right Makes Life Challenging for Foreigners in Germany
It's hard being a foreigner in Germany right now. We have some good events coming up. CV's longer than 2 pages need to go in the trash. Germany ranks high for working parents.
What’s on this week?
Things are feeling bleak in Germany for foreigners. Get cheered up and attend one of our upcoming events. Stop creating CVs longer than 2 pages. Germany is a good place to be a parent.

News in Germany
🗞️ All of the news in Germany.
🤡 Germany’s AfD continues to be on the receiving end of good old fashioned karma, as they were shunned by other far-right groups at the European Parliament, and their lead candidate resigned after claiming that not all Nazis in the SS were criminals. This comes just after Björn Höcke, a leading AfD figure, was fined for using Nazi slogans in public. Better yet, they get hella roasted by Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver in this video and this other one.
A movement that’s even further right than the AfD, the Reichsbürger, is now on trial for their plans to overthrow the German government.
💀 Unfortunately, it gets worse. A video of rich white people partying on Sylt (an island hot spot for the German 1%) emrged, where they joyously sing “Auslanders Raus,” and one guy delivers a double-whammy as he mimics a Hitler mustache while also making a Nazi salute. Police are now looking into things. I hope the Hitler-lover sees huge fines and jail time.
This has been happening against the backdrop of the German Constitution turning 75, their so-called “cornerstone of democracy”. The Irish Times features a great piece on how Germany currently finds itself amid a moral struggle. The country also can’t figure out how to embrace its historical remembrance culture.
Anyway … Germany ranks as one of the top countries for working parents. In related news, Sifted surveyed women working at European startups and found that it’s not just parental leave that matters to them.
